NOTE:

- In a secret room, you can make the screen scroll to the NEXT secret room. This occurs because the c-chip is returning a room_height value of 0x0999 (verified with a real c-chip). In Rainbow Islands, you should recieve a bonus of 5,000,000 points if you enter all 10 secret rooms in the game, or 1,000,000 points for entering the LAST one (the main difference is that you missed one or more). There is a counter for this purpose at $10D05C, however, this set _never_ updates this variable, and so the 'big bonus' cannot be achieved. The alternate version of Rainbow Islands (rainbowa) fixes BOTH of these bugs, by adding code to 3 routines in the game. Rainbow Islands Extra also has these 'fixes' to the code in place. Not bugs. - In Rainbow Islands Extra, the powerup you receive is based on the LAST diamond collected. (no, you still need to collect the 7 diamonds in order, but you can still collect diamonds after you've finished this) anyways, if the last diamond is: you get: Red = Book of Continues, Orange = Money BAG (NOT coin!), Yellow = Key, Green = Protection Fairy, Blue = Yellow Potion, Indigo = Red Potion and Violet = Shoes. Now, some of these are different then in Rainbow Islands: 1.Money bag, a 100,000 point money bag will fall on each level (random time). Unlike the Coin in RI, it will NOT turn all hidden fruit into 10,000pt money bags. 2.Key, the rooms 'secret code' will be revealled for about 8 seconds. In RIE, only the first digit, and one more (depending on the LAST diamond you got) are normally revealled. 3.Protection Fairy - In RIE, the protection fairy is NOT permanent as it is in RI. It will last for a short duration at the beginning of every round, or after you die/start a new man. - THIS IS INTENTIONAL, the code that handles the protection fairy is modified to do just this. - Clone jumping (various): This bootleg of Rainbow Islands suffers from a number of bugs which are caused by the c-chip protection of the original set and not by emulation: sprites of killed monsters are sometimes corrupt, timing of monsters is wrong, monsters can fall through platforms and secret rooms don't work. - Clone jumping: I have a Jumping bootleg and the music has the same tempo of the original rainbow islands. Jumping music is too fast in mame. The pcb has 2 OSC: 24mhz and 18,432 mhz. jumping0104u5ora kold666

- 28th September 2001: Stefan Jokisch fixed a graphics bug in Rainbow Islands which affected the secret room on the last island.

- 30th March 2001: David Graves and Jarek Burczynski fixed a few bugs and added state saving support to Rainbow Islands, Rastan and Operation Wolf.

- 0.37b11: Stefan Jokisch made better fixes to Rainbow cchip, the secret rooms now work and display the correct secret codes. Changed palettesize from 2048 to 8192 colors.

- 7th December 2000: David Graves updated the Rainbow Islands driver to work a bit better and added better C-chip emulation done by Stefan Jokisch.

- 27th November 2000: Stefan Jokisch submitted a fix for Rainbow Islands secret room bug caused by incomplete C-chip simulation.

- 0.37b9: Added clone Rainbow Islands (set 2).

- 0.35b12: Mike Coates fixed the spider gfx and sky color, added sound and makes Rainbow Islands playable (using the C-Chip dump from Jumping). Added Z80 (4Mhz) CPU2 and YM2151 sound.

- 24th April 1999: Mike Coates fixed the corrupt spider graphics and sky color in Rainbow Islands.

- 0.31: Mike Coates added Rainbow Islands (Taito 1987) and clone (Extra) (preliminary). Only partially working due to protection. The sky is black instead of blue.


PLAY INSTRUCTIONS:

- Basic Techniques: Kill the enemies by hitting them with the rainbows or crushing the rainbows above their head!

- Moving Techniques: You can climb the rainbows along the floor! And if you keep pushing the 'JUMP BUTTON', you can jump on the rainbows without crushing!

- Round Clear: Climb and arrive at the goal point!
